Sulfide Ore Mining – The Resulting Pollution

Sulfide Ore Mining - The Resulting Pollution

This is run-off, going directly into a Minnesota stream, from a sulfide ore mine. The stream now contains extremely high levels of sulfuric acid, a by-product of the mining operation. Once such an operation begins, an environmentally disastrous flood of sulfuric acid-laden stream is unleashed. It cannot be safely or effectively contained, and will eventually find its way into the streams, rivers and lakes in the region. At extreme risk are all the streams in the Boundary Waters region, all the rivers, the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and eventually, the Atlantic Ocean. I ardently urge everyone to become educated about this issue. If these mining operations are allowed to begin (some are already in operation in Minnesota), and/or expand, this entire region is under threat of widespread, irreparable destruction.
